There are a lot of different plugins and techniques discussed regarding SEO for Wordpress. Sometimes it can be confusing to know which approach is best to get your blog started properly and quickly. You also want to maintain a clean look to your blog to make it visitor friendly.
Here are 10 SEO tips that will help you get all these accomplished.
SEO Tip # 1: Use Targeted Keywords in the Post Titles.
Post titles should make use of targeted keywords and should be mentioned every so often in the article. The titles should not be used again as another post title on the same site since this can confuse the search engines and influence your rankings.
It is a good idea to make a list of keywords you would like to focus on and have them handy for your post titles.
SEO Tip # 2: Make Page Titles Interesting and Keyword-Rich.
These should be carefully thought out. Use appropriate keywords that you want to target. It is especially important if you are going to have a list of pages appear on the front page of your site.
Make your titles appealing and interesting in the first couple of words. Avoid unnecessary words like “a” and “the” at the beginning of the title, as you have a limited number of words to grab the attention of the person searching the search engines for a topic.
SEO Tip # 3: Use a Google Sitemap
This is a tool that can get your site indexed faster by Google, and it is a must-have for any Wordpress site. It helps Google find out what pages are on your site.
You can make a sitemap with a simple plugin that allows you to turn on the sitemap at the flip of a button.
SEO Tip # 4: Ping Your Posts
Every time you make a post you can ping your post to a number of different websites. This will give you added exposure and help you develop backlinks if your post is linked back by webmasters. Every post should be pinged.
SEO Tip # 5: Customize Your Permalinks.
This is one of the most important things you can do for a Wordpress blog as far as SEO goes. You want to get the title of your post in the URL itself. You can do this by customizing your permalink structure. Simply type in /%postname%/ in the custom option and the blog post name will appear.
If you do not make the changes, the default structure will appear in the URL, which consists of numbers and question marks. This does nothing for SEO, and your posts would not be picked up as quickly, and would not rank as well.
SEO Tip # 6: Create Tags.
Creating tags helps the search engines when they are crawling your site. They are only one or two words that briefly describe what your post is all about.
Search engines use tags to help categorize, index and find your posts faster. Tagging can be done as soon as you complete a post, and only takes a few seconds to do.
SEO Tip # 7: Do Some Linking.
You can cross-link your posts to other posts you have on your blog. You can either do this manually, or by using a plugin.
If you have a post that you think is important, or a sales page on your blog, you can link to it and make the post or page have an importance level of its own.
SEO Tip # 8: Set Up Categories
Categories will tidy up your site into a neat and orderly presentation of content that is good for both your visitors and the search engines. It is like cataloguing a file cabinet full of loose papers into separate piles of information that are readily available.
If you have the permalinks turned on for your blog, you will see the category listed in the URL as well as the name of the post. This helps with SEO, and your visitors will appreciate seeing what is on the post directly from the URL.
SEO Tip # 9: Include Related Posts
You can add posts that are related to a post under any postings that you do. You can get a plugin that will place a number of posts that are related via their tags.
You can configure how many related posts you want to show, which makes it easier for the search engines to make their way to your older content.
SEO Tip # 10: Use an All-In-One SEO Pack.
This plugin generates META tags automatically, or you can set any META keywords and descriptions you want. It works well with other plugins, and gives you the flexibility to try ranking for different keywords if you are not being properly recognized for one.
Many webmasters would not consider doing without this one SEO plugin and have seen dramatic results by using it. It can be added to pre-existing sites as well if you want to try boosting your rankings.
There are other things you can do to help optimize your SEO on a WP blog; but if you follow the recommendations listed above, you will be well on your way to having a blog that the search engines would love and pay attention to.
These guidelines will set up a nice clean blog pattern that can be duplicated time and time again as you build more blogs. It is easy to set up, and you can gradually add more plugins and items to get your site in an even better position to make it to the top.

Building niche keyword lists for adsense publishers and adwords advertisers is one of the many uses of Keyword Elite software by Brad Callen. This article will discuss in detail important keyword strategies for building highly targeted keyword lists with Keyword Elite software. Look for my other Keyword Elite articles for more training on how to use Keyword Elite effectively. Keep reading to find out how to download Keyword Elite with an exclusive $1874.00 bonus.
Once you’ve determined your method of generating keywords with Keyword Elite I’d advise you to use Overture and Ask and the meta tag options in step 3. Click on the “report view tab” and then the “edit list tab”. What you will then see is a group of advanced editing options for narrowing down your keyword lists even further into much more specific niche phrases. This option will also allow you to easily add words to the beginning or end of your keywords with just the click of a mouse.
Your goal is to create an extremely targeted keyword list that doesn’t contain any unwanted and unnecessary keywords. The key here is to make your list extremely focused by using both “only show phrases containing” and “remove phrases containing”.
For example, let’s say you looked through your list and decided you only wanted words that contained “dog food”. Simply enter the phrase “dog food” into the “only phrases containing” box and click “update”. This will immediately and automatically remove words that don’t contain “dog food” in a matter of seconds.
Now your list is becoming very focused and targeted. You could then create an even tighter niche keyword list by stipulating that the keywords must contain “dog food recipes”.
So the strategy with Keyword Elite is to first build the largest keyword list you possibly can, and then to cut it down as specifically as you want using the Advanced Editing options in Keyword Elite.
It is incredibly easy creating extremely targeted niche keyword lists. Find out how to do more with Keyword Elite at the website below and get access to a $1874.00 bonus.

Recently I was asked to optimize a site selling Spanish T-Shirts to attract lots of traffic from the search engines. Without traffic your site won’t make any sales. Of the other hand getting lots of traffic does not guarantee sales if your web copy is lousy. There are many factors that should be considered when you optimize your web site. For my example site to optimize I chose Wild Lily Designs, a site that specializes in selling Spanish Shirts.
Here are the steps I took to optimize the site:
1. Create a keyword list
Write down all the keywords related to the topic of your site. Try to also include keyword phrases. ie T-Shirts, Spanish Shirts, Spanish Apparel, Spanish Clothing.
There are probably millions of web sites selling T-Shirts; therefore you need to narrow your focus. This is why Spanish Shirts or Spanish T-Shirts would a better niche because it wouldn’t be as competitive. If your niche is too competitive you will have a difficult time getting high rankings. Ideally you want your site to appear on the first page for one of the major search engines…Google, MSN or Yahoo.
2. Find related keywords
These are words that are similar to the main keyword list you created above. You may be able to incorporate them into the content of your site as it grows. Keywords that have a very narrow focus ie Spanish T-Shirts, may not be a popular search term. If I broaden my search to include “Spanish” or “T-Shirt” I will find hundreds of words that relate to these topics.
Use a theosaurus dictionary or thesaurus.com to find similar words besides your main keywords. Another great free tool to brainstorm related keywords is the Google AdWords Keyword Tool (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal).
Here is the list of similar keywords generated when I inserted “spanish shirts” in the Google AdWords Keyword Tool:
madrid shirts language tee shirts spain shirt spanish shirt shirts in spanish spanish shirts spanish t shirts real madrid shirt spanish english dictionary spanish apparel sign language shirt language shirts madrid t shirts shirt in spanish hispanic t shirt spain t shirt language apparel hispanic shirts sign language t shirt madrid t shirt real madrid t shirts language t shirts sign language shirts language shirt shirts spanish sign language t shirts spanish t shirt real madrid merchandise i love shirts hispanic t shirts long sleeve shirts spain t shirts t shirts in spanish madrid shirt
From this list you get both the singular and plural forms of the keywords. You may also want to include madrid shirts, madrid t-shirt, spanish shirts.
To find out how often people are searching on these keywords you need to use keyword tools. I use a combination of both free and paid tools.
Part 2 of this article will discuss how I used Wordtracker, one of the most effective keyword tools on the Net, to decide if I should use spanish shirts as the main keyword phrase for Wild Lily Designs the example site I am optimizing.

Getting listed in a reputed business directory, under a highly relevant classification, is one of the best options for your business. A little history is needed to understand the real significance of business directory listings. So we start with a brief history.
History of Business Publicity
Businesses need publicity. In the offline world, they managed to get publicity through print ads (in the press or distributed as flyers), radio broadcasts and television spots. This kind of publicity was not targeted. It reached all kinds of persons, whether they were interested in your offer or not.
There were, of course, targeted publicity options in trade publications etc. However, these tended to be unaffordable for small businesses.
As more and more buyers got online, a new media for publicity was created. The online media offers several options for the publicity seeker. This media too had the untargeted banner ads option – with the banner appearing on general portals frequented by readers with varying interests.
The online media, however, offered several targeted publicity options. Search engines were one of the first of these. In search engines, readers land on pages relevant to what they are searching for. Though this was the theory, in practice, search engine marketers used many kinds of tricks to make even irrelevant pages show up for unrelated search queries.
Directories Improved Targeting
Directories are human edited. Editors review your website, and ensure that it is described correctly and listed under a correct category. This meant that a reader searching through a directory is more likely to find what the person is looking for. Human editing also meant that junk sites were filtered out.
You could thus expect a better experience with directories, compared to search engines.
A Serious Problem With Directories
There is a catch, however. Humans cannot hope to compete with search engine robots in their speed. While robots can handle millions of pages, humans can probably read a hundred or so pages with sufficient attention to be called a serious review. That means only a limited number of websites would be reviewed and listed in human edited directories.
The solution found by Yahoo Directory, the most reputed of the directories, is to charge a hefty fee US Dollars 300 for reviewing your site. Paying this fee does not mean your site would be accepted for listing. If it is, you have to pay the fee annually to continue the listing.
This meant that many good sites that cannot afford to pay the fee couldn’t hope to get into the directory. Yahoo offers a free listing to “non-commercial” sites. However, classifying a site as commercial or otherwise is not always easy.
Other directories too have adopted the practice of charging fees. However, if all fee-paying applicants are included, poor quality sites created in a hurry could soon dominate a directory.
Reputed sites try to guard against this possibility in different ways.
Niche Directories Improve Targeting
Narrower groups use niche directories like a business directory. Antique buyers, for example, could find best results under the Antiques section of a business directory. Business directories often restrict their listings to businesses in a specified region, making it even easier to find sellers near you. Many directories provide a search facility to narrow down the list of businesses displayed.
Listing Your Business in a Business Directory
Select a good directory that has already earned a reputation for quality, and good Google Page Rank and Alexa rating. A listing in such a directory has the additional value of improving your site’s link popularity. Search engines consider a listing in a human-reviewed, quality conscious directory as indicative of the value of your site.
You might have to pay for review of your site and inclusion in the directory.
A newer site that shows a promise of quality (look at the sites listed in the directory to assess the directory’s quality), and offer free listings, is another good option. However, it could be quite some while before you begin to see any results from the listing.
Daniel Frenchy is with www.businessmagnet.co.uk, an award winning directory listing over 70,000 businesses offering over 20,000 products and services. The directory indexes listings by company, town, postcode and product, making it very user-friendly.
