5 Simple Search Engine Strategies for Writers

If you’re a writer optimizing your site for the search engines, you have more considerations than just optimizing for the search engines.

The first thing you need to do is decide if you’re selling yourself, an author driven website, or selling expertise, a topic driven website.

Once you’ve made your decision, you’ll need to do your keyword research on your topic. If you’re creating an author driven website, you’ll want to make sure that you include your name in your keywords.

Here are the strategies you need to implement:

1. Optimize your website. You’ll need to optimize each page individually, so if you have a large list of keywords, then you can optimize each page for a different keyword phrase.

When you’ve finished optimizing your site, you’ll need to implement your search engine strategy.

2. Submit your site to the major search engines.

Although the major search engines, Google, Yahoo, and MSN are more or less true search engines because they spider sites, if you’re not linked to any other sites,

these search engines won’t find you.

You can have other sites link to you, but the problem here is that it may take awhile for the search engines to find your site and spider it even if you are linked.

You can significantly speed up the process simply by submitting to the major search engines manually. If you use a sitemap, you can submit your sitemap to both Google and Yahoo and have your site spidered within a few days.

It may take a few months to get your site completely spidered, especially if it’s a large site, but again, a sitemap can help you with this process.

3. Build backlinks to your website.

Find writing directories and other places where writers, and readers, hang out and post a link back to your site. The more links you have pointing back to your website from other relevant resources, the higher your rankings will be, and your Google page rank will be higher.

You can also find general directories to submit your website. General directories can help you with building higher page rank for your site.

4. Write articles.

Although some writers disagree with using articles as a promotion technique, claiming that you should only write articles for pay, I disagree.

When you write articles, you are giving readers a taste of your writing. You are offering value.

Articles can also help you build tons of one way backlinks to your website through article directories, as well as build a following for your writing.

Which had you rather do: get paid $25 for an article and only be paid once, or earn money every month, over and over for the same article by using it to drive traffic to your website?

5. Participate in forums and communities.

I know. This is a tough one. Many writers are introverts, or they’re not interested in marketing.

If you want to sell your writing, you have to market. Although search engines can get you in front of your readers, search engines don’t buy. Readers do.

Simple Seo Tips – Part Two

Simple SEO Tips SEO explains some simple techniques you can use to increase the targeted traffic to your website. In this video we see ourselves to find popular keywords that have relatively low competition. . .

Top 10 Simple But Powerful SEO Tips You Should Know

There is tons of information on SEO out there, but it is important for any webmaster to know the solid basics of Search Engine Optimization. If you haven’t noticed there’s countless amount of blogs and websites out there offering advice about SEO with great uncertainty.

With that in mind how can you tell which is quality content from just worthless info? You don’t have to worry; I have separated the peas from the pods for you.

Here I have put together 10 simple, but powerful SEO tips you need to know in order to bring loads of traffic to your website.

1. Be willing to Learn SEO. Now I know this may sound silly but you must have the heart to learn SEO. Many people are too lazy to take the time to learn and therefore find this a daunting task.

2. Be consistent. I cannot stress to you how important it is to be consistent. SEO does not happen overnight but rather over a longer time period depending on how consistent and how much energy is put into it. If doing so you will start to see great results within months!

3. Get your keywords right. One of the most important parts of SEO is the keywords. On-page SEO is what affects your results on search engines therefore you must get it right. Before you even build your website make sure you already have chosen keywords (around 2-3 keywords). Your webpage will be based around the keywords you have chosen. The page title is the single most essential on-page SEO factor so include them in there!

4. SEO friendly domain names. When deciding what domain name to choose it is best to try and include your main keyword/keywords in there. If you can include all your keywords in there then do it, but don’t overdo it! Its always good to keep your domain name short and easy to remember. I usually tell people no more than 3 words, and if you can, try and avoid using hyphens as it tends to look spammy.

5. Build a sitemap. Such a simple task yet many forget or don’t do it at all. Your site needs to be crawl-friendly by spiders for it to be indexed in major search engines like Google and this is where a sitemap comes in handy. You need a sitemap especially for large websites. If this is the case make several sitemap pages. Roughly no more than 80 links for each.

6. Know your competition. Ever heard the saying “Keep your friends close but your enemies closer”? It is very important to track your competition. Competition exists and it’s essential to keep tabs on those sites that are ranking high for your chosen keywords. The key idea behind ranking well on Google is to analyze top ranking sites with your targeted keywords, find exactly what they are doing and then do those things.

7. Link building the right way. When it comes to link building you must do it the smart way. Quality over quantity is always the best way to go with link building. Google tends to rank sites higher with inbound links from high PR sites. Having many inbound links from low PR sites cannot compare. Also don’t forget to use keywords in your anchor texts as it helps with search engine keyword ranking.

8. Unique, quality content. If you want Google to rank your site high try to avoid content duplication. Unique and quality content always brings good news to your site, even if you find it more time consuming than copying and pasting someone else’s work, it will pay off in the end. Trust me on this one. Duplicated content is never good news and will only do more damage to your website than benefit.

9. Write articles. After you’ve got your site up and running the next best thing to do is write a bunch of articles (make sure unique and quality) then publish to article directories. One of my favorites is EzineArticles. If you do this on a consistent basis you will see steady traffic coming in to your site. Not only that but it will help with your Page Rank tremendously.

10. Blog! Blog! Blog! This is one of my favorites. Google loves to put fresh content on search engines; therefore blogging is the best way to go. If your site isn’t made solely for blogging then I suggest you set one up as a separate domain then put in a link to your main website. If you love to write then you will have no trouble blogging. There are tons of successful blog sites out there that get loads of traffic.

How To Increase Your Google Rank In 5 Simple Steps

Throughout this article im going to use some terminology you may not be familiar with.

Inbound link – Theses are one way links coming into your website

Outbound link – Theres are one way links that are leaving your website

Cross Links – These are link exchanges, eg you link to site A and site A links back to you

Page Rank or PR – This is on a scale of 1-10 and is how Google measures how important your website is

SEO or Search engine optimization is key to driving traffic to your website from search engines. People often wonder how to get those coveted 1-10 ranks for your keywords, but struggle in doing so. The first and most important step in obtaining those rankings is to target specific key phrases. Its better to target a specific phrase than an individual word, as competition for the individual words is very high and usually dominated by massive businesses.

1) Check out your competitors

For example, lets assume your business sells computers. It would be an impossible task to optimize your site for the keyword “computer” or “computers”. If you do a Google search for ‘computer’ you will see there are 1,330,000,000 results and the top ranking sites include apple and dell to name a few. You will never get into that top 10 list, there is simply to much competition.

2) So, what do I do?

Have a look at your website and ask yourself what do you sell? Is it computers specifically built to play games? If so you should try “custom gaming pcs”. This search term returns 413,000 results much easier to beat than the previous 1,330,000,000 results and the number 1 spot only has 53 inbound links. This should be fairly easy to beat and take their precious number 1 spot.

Before we start looking at how to build links, you need to make sure that your website has being optimized for your chosen keywords. I recommend a piece of software called seo elite that can be purcahsed from seoelitedirect (google it).

3) Checking out competitors inbound links

If you havent purchased SEO Elite which has this superb feature built in. I will show you how to check out your competitors links, the long way.

install the Google toolbar on your browser. Type your keyword into the search (in this example ‘custom gaming pcs’) and then click on options then more tab and tick the page info box. Simply click on the blue circle icon with an I in it and then choose ‘Backwards links’. This will show you a sample of the incoming links a page has, as you can see the #1 spot has 53 inbound links.

4) Make friends with other websites

Look at each inbound link the #1 spot has, see if each page is relevant to your website, it probably is! Browse around the site and find a way to contact the webmaster, there is usually an email address somewhere. Simply contact the webmaster and ask if they would like to trade links with you. Take not of the green bar on Google tool bar, this tells you the Page rank of the page. Links from sites with higher PR are better than links from sites with low PR.

Do this for every site that is linking to the number 1 site for your keyword. Then do it for spot number 2, number 3, number 4 and so on. Some webmasters will just ignore your email, dont get disheartened, there are plenty more links out there waiting for you! If a webmaster refuses to trade links, thank him gracefully.

5) Results

After doing the above for a couple of weeks, Google will re-index their rankings and you will jump up the search rankings. It can take a few months for your page rank to be updated though so dont worry about that. The more links you build, the higher you will rank. The more you put in the more you get out of it.

I strongly suggest you invest in some SEO software. Personally I swear by SEO elite (there are others out there, IBP for example) and it gives you a serious edge over your competition, perfectly optimizing your website for your chosen keywords! Not to mention the amount of time it will save
